Schooner Sailing April /May 2008

Schooner Racing

The schooner season is on us again, this event is well attended on Wednesday afternoons and officiated by Jim Bennet. This class is for multi masted or gaffed rigged sailing vessels. There are three classes determined on length of hull “A” class 55inch and above, “B” 36inch and above and “C” class.

The race lasts for 1 hour and the objective is to put as many laps in as is possible. The winner for each class receives 3 points, 2nd 2 points, 3 1.5 points and 1 point for taking part. This year we are trying four  7 week sailing “seasons” to give more people a chance of winning instead of one long sailing season. During a 7 week season you must stay with the same boat, but the next you are free to try a different boat or carry on with the same one.

Season 1 has now finished with:

Tom Pearsall winning “A” class with “Folly”        Dave Smith winning “B” class

Sid Wilson winning “C” class

All boats start for another schooner race
